ActBlue processes donations based on the exact information submitted via the contribution form. Organizations and campaigns create their own forms, and some use forms that have the recurring option pre-selected. If the “No, donate once” option is not manually selected, unintended recurring contributions may occur.
If you do not want to make a recurring contribution, make sure you deselect the recurring button before submitting the form. A checkmark will appear on the selected button. In the image above, “No, donate once” is selected, so the user will make a one-time donation.
All groups that use pre-set recurring forms must follow ActBlue’s policy and explicitly ask donors for recurring contributions before the donor clicks the donate button. For instance, in the email below, clicking any “Express Donate” button will automatically process a recurring donation if you have an ActBlue Express account.
A pop-up will confirm that your donation went through.
If you receive a pop-up after you give that asks you to increase your donation, the increase will only apply to the contribution you made that day. If you give a recurring contribution of $5 and then choose to increase your donation by $1 in the pop-up, your first charge will be $6, but future recurrences will be $5.
Our Customer Service Team is always available to help rectify unintended recurring contributions, or you can follow these directions.
If you have any concerns about a particular contribution form, you can contact the organization or campaign that created it.
